To the Swiss Data Science Center (hereafter referred to as SDSC), the protection of your personal data is important, and we are committed to protecting your privacy. In this data protection information, we want to inform you about the key aspects of data processing on our website. This Privacy Policy deals with personal data processed when you visit the SDSC website www.datascience.ch.
Who we are and legal basis
The SDSC is a simple partnership (société simple) between the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich (ETH Zurich) without legal personality pursuant to Article 530 et seq. Code of obligations. Therefore, the regulations of the respective acting organizations apply for the processing of personal data not covered by this Privacy Policy, which are: EPFL Privacy Policy and ETH Zurich Privacy Policy.
This Privacy Policy covers the data processing operated by EPFL and ETHZ (“Us”) as joint controllers.
The applicable laws are the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and the Data Protection Ordinance (DPO) for both EPFL and ETH Zurich, and, where applicable, the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The applicable legal basis is the following:

Personal data processing
The provision of personal data through the SDSC website is required for contacting the SDSC through the contact form, for signing up for events and newsletter mailings.
To achieve this goal, we process the following personal data : first name, last name, email address, company, country.
How your personal data is processed
The SDSC will process data in a manner that ensures appropriate security of personal data. We may process different categories of personal data depending on your interaction with us.
If you have registered to receive our newsletter or attend one of our events, your personal data is primarily processed by our communication and event teams. In line with this activity, we may share your personal data with external service providers for operational purposes.
To offer you enhanced online services, we may embed third party services like streaming services, i.e. YouTube, Vimeo and SwitchTube, and social media platforms, i.e. LinkedIn and Instagram. When you use these services, their providers may collect and process personal data as data controllers. We invite you to refer directly to the terms and privacy policies of those providers.

We may use external service providers acting as processors, in particular service providers to manage and/or maintain the website, analyze traffic on the website, send messages on our behalf, conduct research, monitor and analyze the status of our network and the effectiveness of our communication, and other tasks entrusted to processors. Personal data is only communicated to them to the extent necessary to carry out the tasks entrusted to them.
We may pass on your personal data to third parties (i) if this is necessary for the purposes for which you have voluntarily provided it to us, (ii) if you have given your prior consent or (iii) if we are permitted or obliged to do so bylaw (e.g. at the request of a judicial authority, to enforce our legal rights or to collect a debt with the help of a debt collection service).
International data transfers
Personal data shared on this website is processed in Switzerland and in the following countries: the United States of America (related to Webflow).
Where data is transferred to a State without adequate level of protection, an adequate level of protection is guaranteed by standard contractual clauses recognized by the competent supervisory authorities for the protection of personal data. Webflow is certified under the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
Personal data may also be sent to other States where appropriate. We will then comply with the applicable rules and adopt the required and necessary measures prior to the transmission of personal data abroad.

When the processing is based on your consent, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal. The SDSC, as governed by EPFL, reserves the right to refuse any abusive requestor one which is contrary to applicable laws. Finally, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the relevant supervisory authority.
