The Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology (MeteoSwiss) and the Swiss Data Science Center have signed a framework agreement.

The Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC), in collaboration with Empa and Bühler Group, co-organized a workshop to explore data-driven control methods in energy and manufacturing. The event brought together experts from academia and industry to discuss cutting-edge approaches like Rule-Based (RB) Controllers, Model Predictive Control (MPC) and Reinforcement Learning (RL). Participants examined real-world applications and addressed the challenges of adopting these advanced methods in production environments.

Researchers at Eawag and the Swiss Data Science Center have trained AI algorithms with a comprehensive ecotoxicological dataset. Now their machine learning models can predict how toxic chemicals are to fish.

Thanks to a collaboration between CHUV, EPFL – through the Swiss Data Science Center – and UNIL, a predictive platform based on artificial intelligence is under development to improve patient care.

Beyond offering educational exploration, SDSC Hackathons provide an invaluable opportunity to create tangible business solutions.

The Swiss Data Science Center held its flagship conference SDSC-Connect, focusing on AI for Precision Medicine, at EPFL’s RolexLearning Center, on 30 May 2024.

The SDSC has developed a dashboard with which parliamentary services can calculate the composition of the committees of the National Council.

“DEAPSnow”, a project by the Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) and the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF, developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support avalanche forecasters in creating the avalanche bulletin. This product provides essential information about the prevailing snow and avalanche conditions in the Swiss Alps and the Jura.

With applications such as ChatGPT gaining traction, many questions are arising about Generative AI, the technology behind those tools, sometimes described as disruptive. How does it work, how can it support organizations today and what are the risks and opportunities associated with its use?

The International Committee of the Red Cross and the Swiss Data Science Center cooperate on a research project to better understand patterns of violence. This project is a concrete example of how data science can work out an effective model based on publicly available data, delivering a measurable humanitarian impact.

Data science helps deliver more precise and actionable information to policymakers and the population thanks to improved data quality. The Swiss Data Science Center collaborates with the Swiss Federal Office of Energy to push further digital innovation in the energy sector.
